Is an internship mandatory while earning my online Associate degree in Accounting?

Your online Associate of Accounting degree program may or may not require that you work an internship. However, more often than not, they do require a project to showcase everything you have learned during the course of your program, however, in lieu of your project, you may be allowed to work an internship.

Are internships a good idea? Absolutely! The best way to impress a future employer is to take advantage of any internship opportunities that you can. In today’s society, competition is fierce. Everyone wants the best available jobs and the graduates with previous “real-world” work experience will get top consideration.

They are sometimes paid positions, however, if they’re not, then your adventure will be adequate compensation considering the experience and references you’ll gain, which will be impressive on your resume.

There are many types of internships in accounting, such as, areas of tax preparation, forensic accounting or in the field of auditing. Typically, accounting internships are obtained through public accounting firms, government agencies or corporate businesses. Check with your school’s Career Service Representative for leads to intern opportunities. If you should find a job on your own, please check with your counselor to get pre-approval so you can earn the proper credit.

Remember to start applying for internships as soon as possible while earning your online Associate degree in Accounting. The early bird gets the worm!
